We were surprised that 4x and 5x made the same pattern. 2x and 7x made the same pattern. we were not surprised that 1x and 10x were the same - but 8x was a surprise! We were not surprised that 3x and 6x were the same. The 9x was a funny pattern! We know why. Do you?

We worked out the digital roots for our times tables and we found some strange patterns. We don't know why, but 2x, 5x and 11x have the same pattern, and 3x, 5x and 13x have the same pattern. If we keep making them we are sure we can find some more. To find a digital root you work out the table and then add the digit in the multiples together until you get a single digit. so 5x: 1x5=5; 2x5=10 1+0=1, 3x5=15 1+5=6... so 1/5, 2/1, 3/6... Then you record the patterns on your circle. Can you help us to investigate 14x up to 21x and see if there are some more patterns the same? We will do this for homework. |
